INTERNSHIPS CAN HELP HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS GAIN INSIGHT INTO THEIR CAREER GOALS!
YOUTH BEHIND THE BUSINESSâ„¢
We are driven by our mission to help high school students gain insight into their career goals by providing experiential learning opportunities through internships, apprenticeships, and economic education workshops. Internships also serve as a point of intervention for youth who may be vulnerable to distractions that can interfere with their life trajectory. Our process is informed by studies in youth workforce development and a proven model that works with an equity focus.
We believe that student pathways fostered through collaborative community partnerships offer real-world options where Exposure, Experience, and Education INTERSECT!
EXPOSURE
Students Explore Opportunities
Students are not only exposed to Fortune 500 companies and local businesses, but they are also introduced to brilliant minds and influential people. Our goal is to provide meaningful internships and apprenticeships to underrepresented high school students in various industries. With access to the right tools, resources, and opportunities students are empowered by their own abilities and confidence which can increase self-efficacy.
EXPERIENCE
Employers Invest in Students
Youth Behind The Business matches high school students with business professionals within specific industries to gain meaningful skills. Employers can capitalize on formal and informal moments to help shape the lives of our students by supporting youth internships with an equity focus.
EDUCATION
Collaborative Partnerships = Educational Resources
At Youth Behind The Business, we are stepping up our efforts to address the need of today's youth to write their own narrative. Youth workforce development by no means is an easy feat, but through collaborative partnerships we can collectively propel progress in this area. Our goal is to engage businesses and partners in a civic momentum that will help augment the economic growth of communities and cities by investing in the lives of our youth.

"Career success is not the romanticized fantasy of a steady, upward trajectory. Along your professional journey, there will be disruptions, pit stops, detours, and times of adversity. It is critical to have excess capacity to manage frustration and disappointment along the way."
Mandell L. Crawley joined Morgan Stanley as a high school intern and is now the firm’s Chief Human Resources Officer.
